With the new AXS HRD shift-brake system, Sram has achieved the biggest leap forward in development among the new Red components. Both the shape of the hoods and the carbon brake levers have been redesigned. In addition to improved ergonomics for a wider range of hand sizes, the newly designed brake levers offer, above all, significantly better force transmission from all handlebar positions. Thanks in part to a modified pivot point and the relocation of the primary piston into the shifter body, braking can be performed with just one finger in both the lower handlebar position and the hoods. Another highlight is the additional shift button integrated into the hoods, which can also be used to operate ANT+-compatible bike computers. The textured main shift levers operate according to the proven eTap shifting logic. There is one shift paddle for upshifting and one for downshifting. When both shift paddles are pressed simultaneously, the front derailleur shifts. The shifting behavior can be customized via the Sram AXS app, and additional SRAM Wireless Blip-Shifters can also be integrated. The lever travel can, of course, be adjusted using an easily accessible Allen screw. Independently of this, the pressure point on the lever can also be adjusted to prevent contact between the lever and the handlebars. The newly designed brake calipers are not only stiffer but also significantly lighter. The pad gap has been increased for easy installation and friction-free operation. Bleeding Edge technology ensures simple and clean bleeding. Thanks to its slim design, Sram was able to reduce the weight of the Red HRD shift-and-brake system by an impressive 83 grams compared to the previous version.
